Forest communities

Having access to natural resources- land, water and forest as well as their appropriate use and protection has been the underlying factor contributing towards a dignified, locally appropriate and ecologically sustainable livelihood among tribal and other traditional communities.

In the recent past, however, a series of changes at the local, regional, national and global levels in the socio-economic and environmental conditions have adversely affected livelihood security of the poorest communities. Large corporations and mining companies in their resource extraction and de-forestation are contributing directly to loss of livelihoods, displacement from traditional lands and climate change.

We motivates communities to collectively manage their social forestry plantations: These activities raise the income of the community and the community-management and sharing of the benefits develop community unity.

Making the land based livelihood viable and environmentally sustainable has been one of the main activities
